Can I migrate from Matomo?

Yes. Swap the script for the key and Matomo goals and events become doorbells. Matomo exports via API and CSV, so you can keep the history; the pisi.to importer is on the way.

Do I need a banner with pisi.to?

No. Matomo can be configured without cookies, but uses them by default. pisi.to stores no cookies, stores no IPs and does no fingerprinting, so there is nothing to consent to.

What do I lose compared with Matomo?

Heatmaps, session recordings, A/B tests, custom reports, advanced segments, self-hosting and open source. If you need any of those, Matomo is your tool.

Choose Matomo if you need enterprise features: heatmaps, session recordings, A/B tests, funnels, custom reports and an API for everything. It is open source under GPL, can be self-hosted and has been the serious alternative to Google Analytics for over a decade.

When to choose pisi.to

Choose pisi.to if you will not use 90% of that and prefer a dashboard you read in a minute. No cookies out of the box, no IP anonymisation to configure, no plugins to update. The data lives in the EU and the key weighs 1.36 KB.
